The Two Crucial Steps in Cleaning a Dryer Vent

Dirty dryer vents are the leading cause of destructive home fires. As a result, lives are lost, people are injured, and properties are damaged. The importance of dryer vent cleaning cannot be stressed enough.

If you’re thinking of doing it on your own, you need to know that it isn’t as easy as it sounds. Merely emptying the lint trap isn’t enough to save your home from the dangers of a clogged dryer vent.

There are two crucial steps in dryer vent cleaning that you need to keep in mind. Watch the video above and read on!

Step 1: Clean Out the Entire Dryer

Cleaning out the entire dryer from the inside is the first step. Lint doesn’t just get stuck in lint traps. It heavily accumulates inside of the dryer chassis over the years.

As layers and layers of lint block the interior components of your dryer, this prevents it from functioning efficiently. Damp clothes after the end of a drying cycle is a sign that the dryer isn’t functioning the way it should.

Another sign to watch out for is if your dryer is emitting an unusual noise. That noise is your dryer trying to tell you that it needs to be repaired or cleaned out ASAP. But before you start, make sure that you have all the dryer cleaning tools you need.

If it’s been a little too long since the last cleaning, expect to see burned up parts that will need replacing.

Step 2: Cleaning the Ventilation Line

The first step isn’t the end of it. You’ll have to clean up the whole household ventilation line. Lint gets stuck deep into the exhaust pipe reaching inside the vents of your house.

When lint forms an obstruction in your ventilation system, this results to inadequate airflow. If you check outside, a muffled sound is heard from the air exhaust vent pipe as a sign.

To remove exhaust blockage, you’ll need a vacuum cleaner and spinning brush with a long flexible handle that will allow navigation through the vent. These cleaning tools are then connected to the exhaust pipe.

As the brush is guided through the vent, it pushes through thick layers of lint while the vacuum sucks it all out.

There you have it. Just two steps to that will ensure your home’s safety, save your money and leave your dryer running effectively. Sounds like a little too much for you to handle on your own?
